Beautiful antique French wedding globe, dating from approximately the late 19th to early 20th century, traditionally used to display and preserve wedding mementos.
The glass dome encloses an elaborate arrangement of silk ribbons, artificial flowers, delicate metallic floral sprays and pearl-like beads, mounted on a richly decorated textile-covered base. The composition is presented within an ornate wooden and gilt-metal architectural frame, standing on four decorative feet.
These wedding globes were traditionally displayed in the home as a commemorative symbol of marriage, preserving elements associated with the bride's wedding ceremony and serving as a treasured family keepsake.
A charming and highly decorative example, particularly suited to a cabinet of curiosities, antique interior or collection of French domestic and religious folk art.
