Very Rare Congenital Malformation — Caudal Duplication / Polymelia Cyclops
A remarkable taxidermy specimen of a young goat displaying a striking congenital developmental abnormality, characterized by multiple supernumerary limbs and an apparent duplication of the caudal/pelvic region.
The specimen is consistent with caudal duplication (dipygus) with supernumerary pelvic limbs, a rare form of congenital developmental anomaly in which the posterior portion of the body develops abnormally or partially duplicates.
The animal has a single head and markedly abnormal pelvic anatomy, with several additional limbs extending from the posterior region. The specimen also displays pronounced craniofacial asymmetry and unusual orbital and auricular development.
A highly unusual example of congenital animal pathology and teratology, presented as a preserved taxidermy specimen on a black display base.
A fascinating piece of veterinary teratology and natural-history history, Museum quality.
